In addition to working as a freelance creative, strategist and director, Ian currently leads the Advertising and Media faculty at Macleay College - facilitating innovation, creativity and branding workshops. His freelance work as a director and scriptwriter has seen him create commercials, corporate films and documentaries both in Australia and overseas. His latest film "OUT in the line-up" is currently screening at a number of international festivals and has picked up awards in Australia, America and Europe.

The short film ‘The Invisible Edge’ is part one in a trilogy of films about the issues facing young men in rural Australia. The first film has been completed and is currently being screened in various festivals and facilitated mental health awareness sessions. It is a project by the author and filmmaker Ian W Thomson whose life has also been touched by family loss. The film is the first part of a larger project that will include developing a platform for creative projects around mental health issues. It is intended that such artistic projects may connect those in need with important information and resources.
